One On One With Current Women's Wrestler Mena Libra

What made you become a wrestler?
I'd been involved in the wrestling business for years, filming, setting up shows, taking down shows etc. Sitting on the sidelines was no longer satisfying to me so I enrolled at the House Of Truth Wrestling School (http://hotwrestlingschool.com/) training 4 days a week 4 hours a day. It was one of the most intense experiences of my life. I believe H.O.T. is one of the best schools out there, I am so fortunate to have trained (and to continue training) with them.

What do you like about wrestling? / What do you not like about wrestling?
I enjoy that wrestling has given me the opportunity to be a positive role model. I have had so many e-mails from young girls who dream of one day becoming professional wrestlers. It's a crazy feeling to know that I have made an impact on their lives and am able to offer advice to them.
I dislike the bad reputation that women's wrestling has been given. I doubly dislike the women who reinforce this reputation.

What do you feel is your biggest asset?
I feel the knowledge I obtained through my training is my biggest asset.

What was it like entering a arena with thousands of fans shouting and looking at you?
I'm not sure I've ever wrestled in front of thousands, but being able to entertain even one single fan feels amazing. It is a feeling that cannot be described.

Did you make any close friends while wrestling?
I have made a lot of friends through wrestling. In fact, I would say that the majority of my friendships were derived from wrestling.

Do you have much time to spend with your family?
My husband is also in the wrestling business, so I spend every weekend on the road with him. Unfortunately, I have missed a number of birthday parties, weddings, and other family-get-togethers due to being booked on shows out of state. It is hard, but I love what I do.

If you were a fan of the sport as a child, who were some of your favorites?
I only began watching wrestling at age 17. A few of my favorites were Chris Jericho, Goldust and Victoria.

Was there anyone that you credit for inspiring you to do what you do now?
Right before I began training I found myself watching a lot of SHIMMER Women Athletes. I will proudly say that their roster had a great influence on me taking the steps toward becoming a professional wrestler.

Is there anything you would like to accomplish that you haven't yet?
I would love to travel the world and eventually make wrestling my full-time job.

What did your friends and family think when you informed them of your desire to become a pro wrestler?
My friends were very supportive because most of them were already in the wrestling business. As far as family goes, my Mom doesn't like the idea of me getting thrown around a ring, but she tries her best to be supportive of it.

Is there something most fans don't know about you that you would like 'em to know?
Wrestling pretty much consumes my life. When I find free time I love having company over, especially during bonfire season. I am in love with NYC, and it's Broadway shows. I enjoy a good game of walleyball. I have 3 dogs and 4 cats. I also volunteer with the American Cancer Society and help organize a local Relay For Life event.

Who was your first match against and what was it like stepping the ring for the first time?
My first match was a mixed tag match. I teamed with Tommy Treznik & J. Miller against Sean, Blake & Daizee Haze. I have the match favorited on my youtube (http://youtube.com/menalibra). Being in the ring for the first time I remember being extremely nervous until the action started. Once Daizee and I began the match the nervousness subsided and I had my eyes on the prize.

What has surprised you the most about being a professional wrestling?
How many amazing people I have had the opportunity to meet. Whether it be fans, pro wrestlers, promoters, crew etc. Such genuine, great people.

Who were your mentors coming into the business?
My biggest mentors were, and still are, Truth Martini and Tommy Treznik.

Which wrestlers were the most fun to work with?
Too many to name, but I will say I enjoy having mixed tags and intergender matches. I appreciate the challenge of being in the ring with men and feel that those type of matches force me to improve and evolve.

What kind of advice can you give a young woman who might be considering getting into the Wrestling Business?
Find a good school that is going to train you properly and thoroughly.

Any Last Words for your fans out there?
