One On One With Current Women's Wrestler Artemis

What made you become a wrestler?
I’ve done lots of different sports such as volleyball, swimming, or martial arts until one of my knees became very painful. Therefore I had to stop every sport. When I recovered from that I decided to try a new sport and I chose wrestling. I never thought I would be on a ring one day, my idea was just to learn the moves I used to watch on tv… And 2 years later, here I am, wrestling tough girls and challenging myself every day!

What do you like about wrestling? / What do you not like about wrestling?
I really consider wrestling as an art, we always try to do nice moves and to entertain people. This is what I like, the interaction between the wrestlers and the crowd. What I don’t like about wrestling is not being able to wrestle when I’m hurt… I already had to stop wrestling because of an injury and I felt totally useless, which is an awful feeling…

Do you have any funny backstage stories you like to share?
What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room… Some wrestlers would kill me if I told some stories, hehe.

What do you feel is your biggest asset?
I’m neither a heavyweight nor a lightweight, which means I can be brutal and strong versus a lightweight and fast and technical versus a heavyweight…

What was it like entering a arena with thousands of fans shouting and looking at you?
The first time I was petrified, I was worried about messing up, disappointing people and ruining the show… But I got used to the stress and now, when I walk toward the ring, all my stress vanishes and the only thing I say to myself is: “You’ve got to do the job now, do your best, kick some ass and entertain people!”

Did you make any close friend while wrestling?
More than that, most of them became part of my family. When I started wrestling, I found a family. The relationship between us is stronger than any link I’ve had before with people. Besides being good friends, we share a common passion which strengthens our links.

If you were a fan of the sport as a child, who were some of your favorites?
I wasn’t a big fan when I was a child but I liked to watch it, I remember watching matches of Hulk Hogan or Shawn Michaels but I can’t say I was a huge fan of them. Then I stopped watching it until my 16, when I rediscovered that sport. Therefore I became a huge fan and watched lots of matches. The girls I really liked were Lita, Trish and Victoria in the WWE, and Lufisto and MsChif as indy wrestlers.

What did your friends and family think when you informed them of your desire to become a pro wrestler?
Some of them thought I was crazy, others found that amazing. Few are afraid of severe injuries, they say I’m gonna end up in a wheel chair at 40… I just don’t listen to them and do my thing.

What kind of workout do you do? And how many hours per week on average do you spend working out?
I go to the gym everyday to do cardio training and muscle-building exercises. I also have 3 hours of wrestling training every Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes on Saturday, all day long. Unfortunately I don’t train as much as I want. It’s very hard to earn a living out of wrestling, especially in France, so I’m still studying and I also have a job. The result is that I don’t have much time to train…But I do my best.

Is there something most fans don’t know about you that you would like ‘em to know?
They know all there is to know about me!

Who was your first match against and what was it like stepping the ring for the first time?
My first match was against Keissy, it was amazing because it was the very first woman’s match in the EWL. Nevertheless, it wasn’t my first time in the ring. As I was the first girl in my federation, I had to wait for a female opponent while training with men. During those months, I became one of the wrestler’s manager and I ended general manager.

What has surprised you the most about being a professional wrestler?
Me. I discovered I was able to do a lot more that I had expected. It helped me overcome my shyness and challenge myself.

What is your relationship like with any of the girl you work with?
I’m sure you want gossip about what happens in the locker room, but that is secret!

Which wrestlers were the most fun to work with?
Eloanne because she’s crazy in the ring! We became very close outside the ring but when it comes to wrestling, we have the same goal : give all we have and do anything we can to entertain people. So the matches I’ve had against her were very hard but very enjoyable at the same time.
For the men, I’d say Khan, The Skull and El Peludo, even if I could give you 10 more names from the EWL (European Wrestling League, where I learned wrestling)! They’re great French athletes and it’s very fun to work with them, especially because they have lots of advice to give. I’ve also met former WWE superstars like Sylvain Grenier or TNA wrestlers such as Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, etc. It was amazing because I’ve watched them on tv and meeting them was a great experience especially since they didn’t hesitate to give career or training advice!

What kind of advice can you give a young woman who might be considering getting into the wrestling business?
Don’t do this if you’re not 100% motivated. It’s a hard training, you’ve got to stay motivated. Motivation has a huge part in wrestling. If you don’t have it, don’t do it, otherwise you’ll give up, the first time you get hurt.

Any last words for your wrestling fans out there?
Thank you so much for supporting me, I keep doing my best to be on top. I really wish to begin a career in the USA and entertain you more and more!

Thank You for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview?
